APWH

Here are some resources to help you "work" the Stearn's Chapter 2 document. In the next post I will model  another example of how I "worked" a chapter document.
Remember to recognize the Themes throughout the doc.

Environment

• Patterns of settlement
• Technology

Theme 2: Development and Interaction of
Cultures

• Science and technology
• The arts and architecture

Theme 3: State-Building, Expansion, and Conflict
• Political structures and forms of governance

• Nations and nationalism
• Revolts and revolutions
• Regional, transregional, and global structures and organizations

Theme 4: Creation, Expansion, and Interaction of
Economic Systems

• Labor systems
• Industrialization
• Capitalism and socialism

Theme 5: Development and Transformation of
Social Structures
• Gender roles and relations
• Family and kinship
• Racial and ethnic constructions
• Social and economic classes

Also

  • Identify dates (maybe circle them), make an informal timeline of them and take note of when specific events in the doc. take place (I just did this on the blank page at the end.
  • Look for Change Over Time concepts (Continuities would be when something stays the same) and identify them in some way.
  • Look for Compare and Contrast concepts and identify them in some way.
  • Look for samples of evidence or examples and identify them in some way.
  • Look for key terms used repeatedly (like "most" and "emerging")  think about why they are being used
and identify them in some way.
  •  Feel okay about totally marking up the doc with highlighting, underlining, arrows, circles, etc. ... just know what it all means and be able to explain your notations.
