You all did a great job working in your pods using SOAPStone to analyze the documents for the 2002 DBQ essay. Your task this weekend is to draft out an essay response to the same DBQ. Your response should include a complete thesis which
1. answers/addresses the prompt.
2. clearly indicates how you will be grouping the documents.
3. Incorporates the structure (what will your supporting paragraphs be addressing) in terms of support and evidence.
4. You cannot be too clear.
5. Use an academic tone (no first person).
6. Remember to mention one or two documents that would have been helpful in analyzing (for instance a chart, graph or illustration) ... and why you would want it.
The rest of your draft should be an outline of the supporting paragraphs and where you will use the supporting documents as evidence to you grouping.
Use transitions to bridge paragraphs and to present alternative views.
Your draft should include a conclusion which restates your thesis and reminds the reader of the points you made and why.
Remember that using the documents as evidence can be as simple as "this concept is illustrated in document 2 ..." ... but that you must include why.
We will be writing out the final draft of the DBQ in class on Tuesday. I will be giving you a time limit to write out your final draft but you will have already done most of the preliminary work.
Please remember to also have packet (Ch. 11 on African Kingdoms) completed and ready to turn in Tuesday.
